I am appalled by The View’s decision to bring Laurie Perlman Levin on the show with the clear purpose of a sensationalist interview about her “contact” with Jon Levin, her husband’s son, whom she never met. Jon Levin was a gifted, passionate teacher at Taft High School in the Bronx where he was an unwavering and profound influence in his students’ lives. He was devoted to his work and he was well aware, in the most unassuming way, that he could and did nurture the very best in the young people he taught at Taft. When he was brutally murdered in 1997, the shock and grief was felt not only by his family and friends, but extended to his colleagues, current and former students, and their families as well.

I am offended, actually, that Barbara Walters would bring up the subject of Jon Levin's death without any consideration of his immediate family - his mother, sister, and brother - especially given the insensitive and implausible scenario put forward by Ms. Perlman. The ludicrous notion that Jon Levin wished for his own murder is hurtful enough to family members whose lives have already been irreparably damaged by their loss but to then have such self-serving hogwash broadcast on national TV is beyond the pale.

Regardless of whether or not Ms. Perlman believes she actually had “contact” with Jon Levin, her willingness to use it for her own benefit, obviously in a number of ways, is unconscionable.
