February 10th, 2012, 12:04 pmI have no idea what Roland Martin intended, but I do know that what he wrote was offensive. There seems to be a disturbing pattern with Mr. Martin's choice of words, so I don't accept that his tweet simply was a harmless dig against soccer, a sport with which Mr. Martin apparently takes issue. If he's willing to take responsibility for his actions by offering an apology and taking meaningful steps toward making amends, I wouldn't object to a second chance. However, if he fails to learn from his blunder, CNN would be justified in removing him from his job as a consequence of his bigotry and/or insensitivity. While I support Free Speech, I can't condone hate speech. As Joy Behar often says, the best way to fight hateful speech is by speaking out against it. Keith Boykin, a former White House Aide to President Bill Clinton, does so eloquently in his recent blog on The Huffington Post. I hope the Co-Hosts of The View will take a moment to read Mr. Boykin's column and revisit the topic next week:
