what else do u need to know. or be aware of????? she was 13!!! he was 40 end of conversation!!! he admits it. and yes the victim wants to get over it now!! i soo agree with you sherri. why whoopi do u not see a problem with it? just cuz he was not charged with rape, does not make it ok for a 40 yr old man to have sex with 13 yr old. and whoopi can u tell me the difference between rape and rape rape? you said its not like it was rape rape? then its ok for him to flee because he thinks the sentance was a little steep? well i think evry 1 who gets themselves into trouble always thinks the penality is too steep!

I watched this blurb and found myself rolling my eyes, not at the ladies present, but at the fact that it is even being debated in the courts. I don't care how much I love Rosemary's Baby or Tess, the point is, he pled guilty to having sex with a minor. I'm guessing, he got THAT because he's well, Roman Polanski, instead of a rape charge. The judge at the time, or at least it seems this way, was sending a message of "I don't care who you are, how popular you are, you mess with kids, I'm taking you down." Quite frankly, his cowardly self should face the music and deal with it. I liked, by the way, how Melissa Gilbert got caught almost saying "He's not a Nazi." Good thing, because then he actually would have had a better chance of being prosecuted years ago. And the fact the parents were present?? That, in my humble opinion, was grounds for charges back then for child abuse. As Whoopi says, not only do people not agree with the way we, as Americans see things, but our perspectives AS Americans have changed as well. Sorry, Whoopi, paraphrased and added my own thoughts at the end. If R. Kelly took off for France, we would be after him in a heartbeat. Why not Roman Polanski? The question we need to ask, is, why are we so adamant to go after him NOW? He's been in Europe for YEARS. Either way, he needs to face the music he made for himself.

ugh, guys, please, LISTEN to what whoopi is saying... legally, the show cannot say certain things. He was not SENTENCED for rape. The show can get in a lot of trouble for saying he was convicted of rape. Me personally, as I stated before, her parents were THERE, and they allowed this to happen. Is no one going after them? How in the Heebeejeebees was he allowed to serve a 13 year old champagne and a drug, if her parents were there? Does he need to come back? Darn right. Does he need to be crucified because now we find out about kids who have been kidnapped and held for years, or incest cases that are coming out, or abandonment cases? I HAVE a 13 year old daughter who is 5'10" active in martial arts, and beautiful. No way in heebeejeebees I would leave her alone with someone that age or let her drink champagne. That, ladies, is a case of bad parenting. Remember, he found out AFTER THE FACT, that she was 13. Now THAT is convenient for the family, isn't it?

I am disappointed by Whoopi's reluctance to give her opinion on this topic. She usually have an opinion but I noticed that she was fighting to come up with words to hide the fact that she may be on the side of Polanski. disappointed. Polanski pleaded guilty, then fled the country to avoid jail time. Hopefully this is also a crime punishable with more time in jail. The fact remain that this MAN had sex with a child (rape), there was no consent because she was a minor. He broke the law and should be put in jail. Hopefully he will get more time for evading the law all these years. Actors, Directors and all those who reside in hollywood need to know that they are not above the law and when they break the law, which seems to be more often than not, they should go to jail for their crimes. As a matter of fact, most of those within that community are lacking any moral or ethical values. The people who pay for entertainment, aka the public, need to hold them accountable for their actions. Stop supporting an industry that has made being a slut(Paris,Lindsey), a molester(John Phillips, Woody Allen), a rapist(Polanski) the norm.
