To kick off The View this morning, Barbara first wanted to release a statement. The statement is as follows: "I have a warning now. Something I very much want to clear up. You may have seen ads primarily on the Internet for various products, creams that supposedly remove wrinkles; pills or beverages containing an unknown amount of something called Resveratrol. These ads are often accompanied with my photograph implying that I endorse the product. This is totally false. I have no idea if any of these products work and I rather doubt that they do. This occurred because several years ago I presented a television special on longevity that featured research on the possibility of living longer. One such possibility was a pill with huge amounts of a substance called Resveratrol, which is found in the skin of red grapes and extracted from red wine. But you would have to drink a tub of red wine to get the so called benefits. The actual pill containing massive amounts of Resveratrol is still years away, and it’s not approved by the F.D.A. We do not know if there are any benefits. In the meantime, I want to make it clear that I do not endorse any product, we have sent lawyers letters and now I am making this statement."
Next, Whoopi gave our entire studio audience The Diary of Anne Frank 50th Anniversary edition on DVD.
This morning's first guest was Jada Pinkett Smith, here to discuss Hawthorne -- the new TV series she both stars in and executive-produces. Jada plays Christina Hawthorne, the chief nurse in a Richmond hospital, a woman fiercely dedicated to her patients. Since there are usually rumors swirling around Jada's marriage to rapper/actor/producer Will Smith, Jada took a moment to tell the panel that the tabloids can talk all they want ... it doesn't bother the couple in the slightest. She also gave our audience advice on what keeps a marriage successful. Check out Hawthorne, premiering tonight on TNT.
Watch Jada discuss the relationship with her husband Will Smith.
Later, the author of Notes On Cooking, Lauren Braun Costello, was here to tell us how to turn ordinary meals into works of art! Here are some of the tips that save time and money (you can also find them in her book):
- For lasagna, cut it cold and then put it back in the oven in even pieces to make it more presentable when serving.
- For brownies, you always want the perfect edge. Make your brownies look good, with crisp, clean edges, by baking them in a foil-lined pan, lifting out, and freezing before cutting.
- Defrosting meats and seafood on the counter is actually slower and more dangerous. Defrosting in the microwave is disgusting and starts to cook the food. The best and safest way is in a bowl of cold ice water. It’s what food stylists do when they need something thawed backstage quickly.
- How do you keep guacamole green? Putting the pit in the guac will keep it fresh for the life of cocktail hour. To keep it from turning brown for a couple of days, plastic wrap has to touch the surface of the guacamole. If not, you’re actually trapping air right above the surface -- and it's that air's oxidation that's the problem.
