Guests: Michelle Obama, Dr. Jill Biden

It was an extra special “Red, White & View today as, for the first time, First Lady Michelle Obama and Dr. Jill Biden, wife of Vice President Joe Biden, made a joint appearance on The View! This was Dr. Biden’s first appearance on The View, while Mrs. Obama made her View debut in 2008. The First Lady and Dr. Biden sat down with the co-hosts to share their thoughts on topics like family and war. Then, Joy asked Dr. Biden about her husband falling asleep during the President's national address!
The ladies also discussed "Joining Forces," a new, comprehensive national initiative to mobilize all sectors of society to give our service members and their families the opportunities and support they have earned. This can manifest itself in a number of ways - including the areas of employment, education and wellness - but, as Dr. Biden said on today's show, could be as simple as doing a kind act for a neighbor that's in service.
To learn more about "Joining Forces" and how YOU can get involved and show your support, visit the official Joining Forces website.
The Walt Disney Company is doing their part to help members of our military and their families as well. Today, Whoopi announced two new initiatives Disney is introducing to support military families. They are:
Disney has now extended to September 2012 special ticket and room prices to active military and their spouses, retired military, National Guard and Reservists at Walt Disney World and Disneyland.
- Walt Disney World is home to Shades of Green, a military resort hotel that provides military guests with discounts.
- In addition, both Disneyland in California and Magic Kingdom in Florida hold daily Flag Retreat Ceremonies where active, retired and veteran military personnel in all branches of the armed services are honored.
As a USO sponsor, Disney plans to donate 25,000 Disney/Hyperion books to the USO for the United Through Reading military program, which gives deployed troops the opportunity to read their kids a bedtime story and virtually be there, even when they can't be there in person.
- In addition, Disney will send more than 200 "Operation Disney" care packages filled with DVDs, books, and games to USO centers worldwide. The care packages will include 4,000 Disney Digital Book online memberships.
