Wednesday: Special Edition on Women & Addiction
March 16, 2010 | Posted at 1:21 PM
Gambling, drugs, alcohol, sex, pornography, shopping, television, and overeating are just a few forms of addiction. The co-hosts will take a closer look at the cause and effect of a detrimental habit (or addiction) during a one-hour special edition theme show, Wednesday, March 17th.
The co-hosts often tackle addiction topics with stories ripped from the headlines -- including Tiger Woods, David Duchovny, and Rush Limbaugh -- during their conversations and sometimes heated debates. Signs and symptoms, behavioral patterns and treatments, as well as the negative financial, mental, and physical costs will be examined.
Featured guests will include:
- Dr. Drew Pinsky, host of Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew and Sober House with Dr. Drew
- Singer Mindy McCready, whose four country albums have sold over three million copies. Ms. McCready appears on the third season of Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew. She was engaged to actor Dean Cain, had an underage affair with baseball star Roger Clemens, and a violent relationship with country singer Billy McKnight. Ms. McCready attempted suicide with an overdose of alcohol and drugs. She has had her share of scuffles with the law including probation violations, driving with a suspended license, resisting arrest, and served jail time.
- Mackenzie Phillips has suffered a very long and very public battle with drug addiction. Ms. Phillips has spent countless hours in rehabilitation facilities, suffered near-fatal overdoses, and was once arrested for attempting to board a plane with heroin and cocaine. Ms. Phillips is the daughter of John Phillips of The Mamas and The Papas -- whom, in her 2009 memoir High on Arrival, she claims to have had a consensual, yet incestuous, sexual relationship with for over 10 years. The actress/singer is probably best known for her roles in American Graffiti and on television in the sitcom One Day at a Time.
- Model/actress Jennifer Gimenez has appeared in music videos and on film and television in Vanilla Sky,Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle, and The Bold and the Beautiful. Ms. Gimenez is a recovering addict and the current House Manager on the second season of Sober House with Dr. Drew.
- Jennie Katchum is one of the adult entertainment industries' most financially successful porn and web-cam actors worldwide. She fears ending up alone because of carrying pornography into her personal life. Although she has given up pornography, a result of her treatment on Sober House with Dr. Drew, she still struggles with sexual sobriety.

March 17th, 2010, 10:40 amI actually appreciate what Dr. Drew does. I watched the interview and have issues with Elisabeth Hasselbeck. This young woman has very little empathy when addressing someone on such a sensitive issue such as incest. She is always argumentative. The way she talks over the guests and her co-hosts shows her age. I rarely watch the view because of this loud mouthed girl. Sorry Elisabeth you need to learn to be a little more graceful.

March 17th, 2010, 11:07 amI am watching the show with Dr. Drew, and I think it is a great topic because usually women are more quiet and reserved about it. So its great to have a full episode for that.
Thank you.

March 17th, 2010, 11:15 amWatch the show this morning about addicts and recovery. The show ended with Whoopi saying there is help every where. I live in Oregon. To get any help here you have to have insurance, money, or jail to get any help.
With little income no insurance and thankfully not any jail time. I struggle every day to stay clean sober or what ever you want to call it. I have 5.5 years clean. But carry the stigma of drug, use and have no way to correct the problem. There needs to be programs for those that have no way to get help. Celebraties have money to get help.

March 17th, 2010, 11:22 amI'd like to applaud Mackenzie Phillips for standing up and speaking out. I know it's painful. I've told my family that the way it's always been done isn't necessarily the right way. And that change comes from someone saying the old way isn't ok! I still scratch my head in bewilderment that most people when faced with molestation in their families will side with the offender to keep family peace at the expense of children they are supposed to protect. I am in my 50's and the pain of betrayal by my protector is still strong. My family has at least 3 generations of victims because we wouldn't speak out.
