Learn about jobs that will allow women to still remain at home with the kids, but at the same time give them the opportunity to financially contribute to the household. Tory Johnson, author of Will Work From Home: Earn the Cash Without the Commute, joined the ladies to discuss stay-at-home mom jobs that will allow women to still remain at home with the kids, but at the same time give them the opportunity to financially contribute to the household income during these trying economic times. Here are just a few paths moms can take:
1. Become a direct sales pro:
Here are a few examples of direct-selling companies Tory discussed:
- Cooksey Keepsakes (photography parties) (cookseykeepsakes.com)
- The Happy Gardener (thehappygardener.info)
- Stella and Dot Jewelry (stelladot.com)
- Wine Shop at Home (wineshopathome.com)
- Simply Fun (games for ages 3 & up) (simplyfun.com)
2. Promote your expertise
- Soft Skills: Care giving: Childcare (Sittercity.com & care.com); eldercare (HomeInstead.com & SeniorHelpers.com); Pet sitting (FetchPetCare.com)
- Hard Skills: Technical (guru.com; elance.com; odesk.com); writing (associatedcontent.com and helium.com); advice (liveperson.com); other services
3. Online selling
Convert clutter into cash on sites such as: ebay.com, amazon.com and craigslist.com
Crafts for cash: Etsy.com:
- Tutus for girls (mom2twogals.etsy.com): Leslie LaBarge of Dover, Ohio sells between $1,200 and $4,000 a month. "Paint Me A Rainbow Tutu" is her most popular item at $19.50. This is what she now does fulltime.
- Soaps (etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=6018074): Sells $1,000 worth of crazy soaps every month. It's a mom and daughter operation.
- Dog Collars/Leashes (etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=6364018): The Cool Puppy just started and sells $500 a month and it's growing steadily

June 26th, 2009, 8:14 amI'm somewhat disappointed that both "The View" and "GMA" have been touting selling your crafts on line as an easy way to make extra money. Frankly, I think it borders on irresponsible. Any artist/crafter who not only sells handmade items on their own website as well as on Etsy.com, such as myself, will tell you there is a heck of a lot more to it then what is being reported. The arts and crafts business is a vital part of the American economy, and often portrayed as as easy way to make money. I also do the craft show curcuit, and I'm here to tell you there is nothing easy about this profession. Rewarding, yes. Easy, no. I sure would like to see a much more in depth piece on those of us who make a living as artists and crafters. You can make money, you can love your job, but a great deal is left out of these "work from home" pieces.

June 26th, 2009, 8:34 amI NEED HELP!! I watched your show today on ideas for stay at home moms.. I currently have a part time job as a loan officer - commission only - and have not had a paycheck in almost 4 months! My husband was laid off and is now working for $26k a year just so we can have medical benefits for our 1 year old daughter. I am 34 years old and was hoping to have another child soon, but lately my husband has implied he isnt sure about having another baby because of our financial situation. I completly understand, but we really want our daughter to have a sister or brother. Ive been looking for something to do from home and have spent money, only to learn I had been scamed!! I dont want to be a party hostess selling garden stuff, and I do not have clutter to sell on e-bay. Can you recommend anything else I can do from home while taking care of my daughter? I saw Google has something called Google Home BUsiness Kit - do you know if this is legit? How do I find something legit?!? I cant afford to pay our mortgage this month let alone be taken by another scam!! PLEASE HELP!!

June 26th, 2009, 8:39 amI did not like the show today. There was no gossip or mention of Micheal Jackson's death, or Farrah Facetts. Lately their has been no spark to the show's like their use to be. I think this show was the woerst because their isn't any jobs for too many people. Talk about how so many people are claiming unemployment, or how many children are suffering because of our economy. You have these big rich, hosts that are telling us how to get a job. What do they know? They have money. They sell their books. Alot of people do not have experience at all? Wal-Mart...lol...minimum wage...Ha!
