Mutts You Can Adopt Today
February 18, 2011 | Posted at 9:00 AM
As a part of The View's Third Annual Mutt Show presented by Pedigree®, we featured a number of mutts that are up for adoption at the North Shore Animal League America in Port Washington, New York.
Here are the mutts featured on the show today:
Sassy
Sassy is one-year old Labrador/Border Collie Mutt-i-gree (mixed breed). The original owners of Sassy gave her to a friend as a puppy. About one year later – the original owner happened to see her at the construction site and recognized her. Seemingly, the “friend” who they gave Sassy to abandoned her. She was eventually brought to North Shore Animal League America. She is a sweet lovable girl who would be great with a family and she is terrific on the sit command – especially when there is a treat involved – because she loves her snacks.
Chocolate Chip
Chocolate Chip is a two-year old Terrier Mutt-i-gree. Sadly, her family gave her up to financial hardship. Chocolate chip went into rescue in Georgia for one year, but was unable to get adopted. After the year, she was transported to North Shore Animal League America with the hope of finding her a loving, permanent home. She absolutely loves hugs – and would be wonderful with a family – as she is playful, yet sweet and gentle at the same time.
Jazzy
Jazzy is a Dachshund/Corgi Mutt-i-gree. This eight-month-old girl was found as a stray in North Carolina. After being fostered, she made her way to the Animal League and is now looking for the perfect home. She is nearly fully grown at 14 pounds and would do well in an apartment environment. She is quiet and shy and has very good inside manners. The ideal home would be a less active household – a senior citizen would be a good match.
Kable
Kable is a one-year old Shepherd Mutt-i-gree with great ears! He was found as a stray by a rescue group. After they received no response when they tried to contact the owner, Kable was brought to the Animal League. He has an incredible personality and loves dogs and cats. He is very gentle and does not get overly excited, but will greet everyone that he meets. It is recommended that he is in a home with children over six years old – just because of his size – but he is a complete joy to be around.
Missy
Missy is a five-month-old Bulldog/Pug Mutt-i-gree who loves to strut her stuff. Unfortunately, the family that brought her to the Animal League decided that after getting her as a small puppy from a pet store five months ago, she has now gotten too big and they no longer wanted her. It is important to know that when you bring home a pet (especially a puppy) that you are making a 15-plus year commitment. While Missy is playful, she has the typical Bulldog personality - stubborn. So while she will make a good family dog, she will need strong leadership and of course lots of love!

February 18th, 2011, 9:51 amI am so thrilled that there are so few abandoned dogs in the metro NY area that North Shore Animal League is able to provide shelter to dogs all the way from Georgia. I guess that our local "Kill Shelters" have taken care of the few that are here!
