From a free first-class plane ticket to luxury hotel rooms, we’ve called in a pro to show us how to spend a little and get a whole lot for free! Whoopi’s friend and professional concierge Michael Fazio shared a wealth of info. Here are a few of his tips:
Bitching for Dollars
Is complaining the best way to get things? Yes! Here are the rules about how to bitch for free goods:
- The Golden Rule: Be fair and ask for something that is comparable to your loss.
- Act immediately: Work with the person in front of you and ask for them to pretend they were in your shoes before you ask for the manager
- Know your target: Research your company. Look at their website and contact people with power.
- Spread the word: Visit gri.pe to help you spread the word online and get help.
Flying Tips
- Are the flights overbooked? Let them bump you and you can recieve a free flight (or more) with the airline.
- With some credit cards, you can buy one first class ticket and get the second for free.

November 11th, 2010, 10:17 amMe too, doriemh! Hey - The View - post the info, please. Everything else is posted. I think the guest's statement was an exaggeration. We have an airline rewards card & I've never heard of "buy one, get one free".

November 29th, 2010, 8:47 amIf I recall, KymberliC, the first thing he said was to act with integrity. At no point did he condone complaining for the sake of getting free merchandise/service/etc. He is condoning complaining if the issue is legitimate, but also said to ask for something comparable to one's loss. Certainly there will be scum out there who will complain in effort to walk away with something for free, as there always will be and have been regardless if this show aired or not. I think this segment was only to guide people on how to properly complain if they indeed were dissatisfied, and to be able to have their issue rectified. There is nothing immoral about calling a company with a valid complaint and trying to get some sort of compensation. The key word is VALID. As I mentioned previously, there will ALWAYS be the types out there to try to get something for nothing. It's unfortunate. However, for the consumers who were in fact wronged, I thought this was great to show the honest consumers how to properly handle their complaints.
